Dubber's Comments:
I had someone ask me in an email today if I
would write and tell them when I updated my website with something they might be interested in. I wrote back and told them
that all they had to do was go to the Home page here, type in their email address in the "Monitor page
for changes" field and click OK.
As luck would have it, I clicked a couple of sites at random on my Freeware page today
and ran across a proggie called URL Spy. As can be seen in the Manufacturers Comments above URL Spy proposes to do just what
my friend wanted.
I downloaded URL Spy, put my website's URL in it and had it run a check. Then I went to my website
and made a change in it.
I waited the 15 minutes that I set up as the time interval to check websites and sure enough
URL Spy reported that my website had been changed.
I'm not sure which Windows Operating Systems that URL Spy will work
on. I know that it works with the WIndows XP on this computer.
If you need to keep up with changes in websites the
easy way, then URL Spy is just what you need.
Name:HTTrack Website Copier-Offline Browser Type: Freeware Operating Systems: Windows 9x/ME/NT/XP/2000/2003/Unix/Linux/Linux GPL and MAC Size: 3.67 mb Languages: Around 30 System Requirement:Not stated
From: HTTrack-http://www.httrack.com/page/2/en/index.html
Manufacturer's explanation:
HTTrack is a free (GPL, libre/free software) and easy-to-use offline browser utility.
It allows you to download a World
Wide Web site from the Internet to a local directory, building recursively all directories, getting HTML, images, and other
files from the server to your computer.
HTTrack arranges the original site's relative link-structure. Simply open
a page of the "mirrored" website in your browser, and you can browse the site from link to link, as if you were viewing it
online.
HTTrack can also update an existing mirrored site, and resume interrupted downloads. HTTrack is fully configurable,
and has an integrated help system.
Dubber's Comments:
I have a friend with a computer that does not
have Internet access. With HTTrack I can download and burn a website to a CD and my friend can surf that website to his heart's
content on his computer.
Not too long ago one of my favorite websites gave a warning that they would start charging
for access to their website content. I used HTTrack to download the website while it was still free.
HTTrack is one
of those programs that you can use to simply download a website. However, it has many options and filters that you can use
to make it as complicated and esoteric as you want. Geeks and amateurs alike will be pleased with HTTrack.
Yep, this
is another one of those programs that you didn't know you really needed until you started using it. Heh, it's small, easy
to use, works on almost any platform, has about 30 languages, and has lots of online documentation.
Name: Double Driver Type: Freeware Operating Systems: Win 95/98/ME/2K/XP/ Size: 1.37 mb Languages: English System Requirement: Processor PC with a processor 133 MHz or faster.
RAM- 16 MB. Available Hard Disk Space- 5 MB. Video 800 x 600 pixel, 256 colors (recommended: 1024 x 768 pixel, High Color
16-bit). Mouse or compatible pointing device.
From: Boozet-http://boozet.xepher.net/dd/download.htm
Manufacturer's explanation:
With Double Driver you can view which drivers are installed in your system and you can backup the drivers you choose, save
and print the drivers list, and more.
Double Driver is freeware. Feel free to use and give this program to anyone you know. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Double Driver Features
* View installed drivers * Backup drivers * Restore drivers * Save drivers list * Print drivers list
Dubber's Comments:
The program that I used in the past to back up my computer's drivers went Shareware and now I have started using Double Driver(DD)
to back up the drivers on my computer.
DD is one of Boozet's fine freeware programs. It will list your drivers almost instantly. Then you have the choice of saving
them to a file, printing them or backing them up.
I tried backing them up and it took about a minute to backup 46 megabytes of drivers to a file.
It's so easy that you could rerun it every time you updated any of your drivers.
I haven't tried the Restore option, but it would be very handy to be able to just pick any driver file from the list and restore
it if an updated version of that driver caused problems.
If you're frustrated at Internet Explorer not allowing you to view webpages at the size you want then you'll appreciate the
EasyRead Toolbar Buttons. The EasyRead toolbar buttons allow you to magnify any HTML page as you browse the web.
Version 1 is now available, with the following features:
* Easily Zoom in and out on any webpage at the touch of a button
* Great for those of you with poor sight when viewing small size text
* Works in all situations, when Internet Explorer's 'Text Size' fails
* Works with pages in frames
* Prints your HTML page magnified
* Totally 100% Free!
* No popup adverts or spyware
* Simple to use
Dubber's Comments:
I can't tell you how many times I have been unable to read the text on a website while using the Internet Explorer browser.
Elsewhere on the site is a workaround for this that involves using some accessibility features.
I'll bet there are as many computer users who have switched to others browsers such as Firefox for this reason as much as
any other, including tabs, etc.
Easy Read does what it says. It puts "+" and "-" buttons in the IE toolbar that allow you to Zoom in and Zoom out on a web
page. I wish I had discovered a program like Easy Read a long time ago.
Name: MSConfig CleanUp Type: Freeware Operating Systems: Windows with MSConfig Size: 689 kb Languages: English From: MSConfig CleanUp- http://www.get-in-control.com/msconfig-cleanup/ Manufacturer's explanation:
MSConfig, a tool that comes with Windows, includes a basic startup manager which allows you to enable/disable auto-start
programs. It does not however allow you to completely remove an entry from the list. This is where MSConfig Cleanup comes
in!
It scans the startup configurations and allows you to remove any item that has been previously disabled via MSConfig.
Dubber's Comments:
MSConfig lists all the processes that are going to run automatically when you start your computer. A lot of computer users
will uncheck some of these because they are unnecessary and slow down the start up of your computer. After installing and
uninstalling various programs, this list can get lengthy because even though the processes are disabled, they are still on
the list, and it just looks messy.
Well, if your computer operating system actually has MSConfig, then MSConfig Cleanup will remove all those processes completely
from the list. Just install MSConfig Cleanup and start it up. What you will see is a window that lists only the disabled processes
from the whole MSConfig list. Select the ones you want to get rid of and then click on "Clean up selected". That's it.
MSConfig Cleanup is an honest little proggie that does its one task well. You may not use it often or even want to use it
at all, but I like it and will use it from now on.
Only one thing, and it's not a big thing, is that you have to reboot sooner or later after using it, so it may be a good idea
to save your work before using it.
Name: CDBurnerXP Pro Type: Freeware Operating Systems: Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/2003 Server Size: 11.02 mb Languages: English From: CDBurnerXP Pro- http://www.cdburnerxp.se/ Manufacturer's explanation:

Operating systems: Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/2003 Server.
Dubber's Comments:
You know that I'm not going to waste my time going to the trouble of putting something on this page that I don't like.
Yes,
I do like this Freeware CD, DVD, ISO burner, especially on Windows 98, ME, and 2000 which don't come with a built-in CD-Burner
like Windows XP does.
CDBurnerXP Pro is a polished, easy to use burner.
And when was the last time you saw the drawbacks of a program listed on its Download page? Well, here they are:
* If you have problems with Installer (i.e. INSTMISA.EXE not found) update your Windows Installer (download at bottom of
the page)
* Burning ISO Images is limited to 4,2GB
* Folders added to layout might be empty, in this case check the forum
* Possibly wrong detection if drive is able to use DAO/SAO mode for audio burning or not
* Multisession problems with DVD+R
* Files with relative paths within m3u-playlists are not added
* If you want to burn without administrative rights, you have to enable this feature as administrator in CDBurnerXP Pro: File->Settings->Device
Access
* Helpfile partially outdated (all those pages without a blue background for heading)
* non-ASCII charcters are not displayed or burned correctly
These are known problems that will be fixed in future versions.
Name: Crap Cleaner Type: Freeware Operating Systems: Windows 95/98/NT4/ME/2000/XP/XPSP2/ and2003. Size: 428 kb Languages: English From: CCleaner- http://www.ccleaner.com/ Manufacturer's explanation:
CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) is a freeware system optimization tool that removes unused and temporary files from your system -

taking less that a second to run) and Free. :)

Netscape, MS Office, Nero, Adobe Acrobat, WinRAR, WinAce, WinZip and many more...
100% Spyware FREE
Dubber's Comments:
I'll bet you thought the same thing that I did. A program named "Crap Cleaner" is probably a joke and is actually a piece
of crap. Not so, my friend.
Crap Cleaner does an excellent job of removing "Crap" from your computer. And it is very easy to use and, in addition, works
very quickly.
You might not want to do it, but I let Crap Cleaner remove whatever it wants to from my computer. I have not had any bad consequences
from doing that.
Crap Cleaner actually does what it says. IMHO, it's one of the safest and best cleaners you can use.
Now, it won't get all the MRU items that MRU Blaster does and it won't clean out all the registry junk that JV16 and Easy
Cleaner do. Of course, it does removes crap that they don't get.
I highly recommend Crap Cleaner. Try it. I think you will like it.
As a bonus, Crap Cleaner will work with Windows 95/98/NT4/ME/2000/XP/XPSP2/ and2003.
Downloading Jan's Painter 23
was slow and the install was uneventful. Your only choice for the download is a Zip file, so you will need some sort of Archive
utility such as the fine "Zip Genius" featured in another review here.
I know what you are thinking. So what? Another
clone of MSPaint with just a few more "bells and whistles", but not much more functionality.
That's what I thought,
too, just looking at the rather austere GUI of Painter 23.
Then I started looking through the options available. Not
only are there tons of options just in the menus, but when you choose an option and then right click on the object created,
there are tons more.
I am not going to make an attempt to tell you everything you can do with this software that is
less than a 500 kb download.
If you are interested in graphic design for the Internet, check Painter 23 out.
I
am going to spend a leisurely couple of days exploring this proggie. Usually I spend a couple of days exploring and then write
a review.
It didn't take me 10 minutes to decide that this proggie is worth a review. Painter 23 is a worthy addition
to your graphics software arsenal.
Name: Copying/Moving/Deleting on
Next Boot Type: Freeware Operating Systems: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP Size: MSI-setup
(546 Kb) EXE-setup (644 Kb) ZIP-archive (369 Kb) Languages: English, German. From: Gibin Software
House- http://www.gibinsoft.net/gipoutils/index.htm
Manufacturer's
explanation:
Copies, moves or deletes files on next system boot for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP.
The utility is very useful when user needs to replace or delete files which are locked by other applications, loaded into
memory or cannot be changed until next system boot.
The program can be integrated into shell (setup creates the "Copy/Move/Delete on boot" context menu item and GiPo@Utilities
file/folder property page).
Dubber's Comments:
The
first thing I noticed a little different about this software is that you can download it as an MSI, Exe, or a Zip file. You
ever try to do an MSI install on a Windows 98 FE operating system?
That's right. It won't work unless you download
and install an update from the Internet. Thanks for that, Gibin Software.
The second feature that grabs your attention is that it works on Windows 95 through Windows XP. So, If you are using a Windows
operating system, you are all set.
By the way, the Gibin Software House has a website that is simple, sleek, easily understood and easy to navigate. It's also
easy on your eyes with a light purple background and white font. Very pleasant experience visiting there. Be nice if other
websites would follow this fine example.
I downloaded the MSI install in 1 min 49 sec on a 34.6 Kbps modem which is
5.00 KB/Sec. That's a fast download for my puter.
The second screen in the install process lets you choose to install
for all users or just the current user. I installed on Windows XPPro, so your mileage may vary on this feature on other Operating
Systems.
Otherwise, the install was quick and uneventful. You aren't pestered with questions about putting a shortcut
on the Desktop, in the Start menu, in your Favorites, etc.
I checked and an option was added to the "Right click"
menu to delete a file at the next reboot. Using this option is similar to Deleting in Windows. A popup Window appears asking
if you want to delete the file at the next reboot, giving you a chance to say no if you clicked the Delete at Reboot option
by mistake.
Opening the program, you are presented with a nice looking, but unnecessary credit screen, which I am
sure you will grow weary of if you use this program a lot.
The next screen presents you with a box to type or drag
and drop a file name into.
The following screen offers three choices upon a reboot: 1. Copy the file to a different
location. 2. Rename or (and) move a file to a different location. 3. Delete the file.
I tried all three choices
and they worked like a charm for me.
Ok, Ok, you can boot into DOS or Safe mode to do what this program does. So you
have to choose between adding the complexity of another probably seldom used third party utility to your computer
or the aggravation of rebooting to DOS or Safe mode just to do a simple task like renaming, moving, or deleting a file that
is in use.
I chose to keep "Copy/Move/Delete on Next Boot" on my hard drive.
Heh, have you ever typed a long, thoughtful, thorough email only to hit the
wrong button and send it to bit heaven? That's the reason I compose long emails in a text editor and copy and paste the finished
text into my email program.
Winx will take the worry out of losing text.
Winx is a basic keylogger that runs
in the background hidden from view. The program is installed in the C:\windowsdirectory and in the folder WINx. The keystrokes
are stored in a .doc file with the date as the name. This program is 398kb and is designed for Win98, Win ME only.
Oh,
by the way, this proggie will also let you know what other people are doing when they use your computer.
You can finally find out where all that disgusting stuff in you Temporay Internet Files comes from.
There are other
less ethical uses for this proggie that I will leave to your imagination.
Create
stunning 3D, multicolor, shaded, rotatable text for that special web image/greeting card/logo.
Shading (depth, angle, multicolor)
Rotate text 90, 180, 270 degrees

information and integrates well into Windows 95/98 and NT's existing structure.
To activate this extension, right-click
on a folder (or on a drive), and click on Properties in the contextual menu. Windows Explorer displays the Properties dialog
with a new page named Size.

Internet
Sweeper is a small(96kb) proggie that sits in your Systray. it sweeps all the junk files from your computer at any time.
It is free, but nags at you to try to get you to make a donation.
Internet Sweeper:
Erases unneeded files which take up hard disk space and slow down browsers after using the internet. Closes those annoying
javascript popup windows. Can automatically run when computer boots, user logs in, or when browsers closed. Works with Windows
95/98/NT/ME/2K/XP
ALL major browsers supported: Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator (now 6.2), and Opera (6.1), and now AOL 7.0! Options to
erase index.dat files, Cache, History, Cookies, Addresses, Forms, Passwords, Recent Documents, Find Documents and Search Assistants,
Find Computers, and Temporary Files!
I really like the popup stopper option. It stops all popups, unless you OK them. In combination with Agnitum Outpost Firewall,
which has a good ad-blocker, your surfing becomes much more enjoyable.
Another great little proggie that I use all the time.
If you use AdAware to get rid of Spyware, then you will like Spybot-Search and Destroy.
SpyBot-S&D searches your harddisk
for so-called spy- or adbots; little modules that are responsible for the ads many programs show.
If SpyBot-S&D finds
such modules, it can remove them - or replace them with empty dummies in case their host won't work any more with its bot
removed. In most cases, the host software still runs after removing the bot.
Another feature of Spybot S&D is the removal
of usage tracks, which makes it more complicated for unknown spybots to transmit useful data. The list of last visited websites,
opened files, started programs, cookies, all that and more can be cleaned. Supported are the three mahjor browsers Internet
Explorer, Netscape Communicator and Opera.
Last but not least Spybot-S&D contains some routines to find and correct
invalid entries into the registry.
I use Spybot-S&D in concert with AdAware to try to keep Spyware off my computer.
These proggies are useful and sometimes necessary to fix your computer.

Empty Temp Folders (emptemp) helps you manage folders that contain
temporary files, left over by other applications. It's easy to add any folder and you can empty a folder (or all folders)
with one click.
Also emptemp will let you list and delete cookies, history files and temporary internet files (this
requires MS Internet Explorer version 5+).
Emptemp also has a search function to let you find and delete temporary
files outside the normal temp folders. Any program can leave behind temporary files or backup files anywhere on your harddisk.
These files have file types like .tmp, .bak, .old and .log. You can add your own file types.
Emptemp also displays
the amount of memory the content of the clipboard takes up, and lets you delete it. And it can find broken shortcuts (.lnk
files) on your harddisk, so you can delete or fix them.
Add existing folders to the list on the left (in emptemp's
window). Then delete the contents of a folder (or all folders) by clicking a button in the toolbar.
You can also delete single files or subfolders by selecting them and pressing the Delete key. Click to go to the Empty Temp Folders

THE PROGRAM- StartPage Guard (SPG) protects your
PC from cyberscam, by monitoring status of your internet browser StartPage and preventing it from any unauthorized changes.
BACKGROUND- Malicious programs (viruses, trojans, backdoors, etc.) sometime change the StartPage to "gain the ground".
Spywares use this way to invade user's privacy by tracking destinations which user visited, and collecting personal information.
In some cases this activity may be totally transparent to the user. But most often this is just plain annoyance when start
page is changed without asking user's permission. SPG effectively deals with all this problems, making surfing the net safer,
more secure, and by reducing frustaration - more fun.
FEATURES- * ALWAYS remember user-selected StartPage.
* Alerts if start page has been changed. * Detects and reports transparent-redirect attempts. * Can automatically
revert to user-selected start page without user interaction. * Deals with disabled (grayed) set-startpage-address buttons
on IE. * Simple and user friendly interface. * Whole program is a single, small (300+k) file, written in C++.
* Install / uninstall included.
